ABOUT VAGABONDS CAMPS

Vagabond Camps is a summer camp like no other. Here our campers get the opportunity to travel out West to explore the greatest camping spots the US and Canada have to offer. We offer both 6 week and 4 week sessions that pickup in Dallas or Austin, TX and make stops at some of the most iconic National and State parks as well as other noteworthy stops.

Expect to have an amazing adventure where you will camp in a tent under the stars every night. Campers will learn valuable outdoor skills from our Eagle Scout counselors. We also help build responsibility and character as campers are expected to help with essential tasks like setting up camp, cooking, cleaning, and other ad hoc chores that allow them to hold responsibilities for the group.

While we visit these amazing places campers will be exposed to different activities and will be taught the skills necessary to participate safely.

Horseback Riding
Canoeing & Kayaking
White Water Rafting
Swimming
Surfing
Historical performances

Counselors and Support Staff

Each term will have four full-time counselors (1 counselor per 6 children)
All counselors are required to have Eagle Scout certification or proven equivalent experience
One supervisor/camp mom will also be on the trip to ensure all campers are well taken care of

Travel Caravan

Our travel caravan is top of the line and makes traveling and camping with our group fun, comfortable, and safe. We have everything we need to stay off of the grid.

1 RV for camp mom and safe haven if needed
2 12-passenger vans to carry campers between locations
1 bear-proof custom trailer for equipment, food and travel kitchen

Camper Requirements

Age

10-15 years old.

Must be within age range by departure date.

Gender

Boys Camp - confirmed

Girls Camp - pending but waitlist available.

All campers will have an easy going interview to confirm they have the desire and character needed to make this trip.

Laura Ainsworth

Owner & Camp Mom

Laura has a Masters in Business and has been in the corporate world for twelve years. As a mother of two and a lover of the outdoors she finally decided she needed a complete lifestyle change to spend more time with her children and nature.

After hearing about the camp her grandfather, Papa Charlie, started in 1972 she decided the legacy was too amazing not to continue and brought Vagabond Camps back to life.

Charlie Sadler

Founder

Charlie has been an avid outdoorsman and entrepreneur his whole life. He founded Vagabond Camps in 1972 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is practically a walking history book and can tell a story like no other. Check out our history to read more about how Vagabond Camps started.
